Audio loudness tools

A loudness target helps podcasts, voice recordings and music feel more consistent in ordinary playback. The normalizer uses FFmpeg loudnorm in a single pass with selectable LUFS targets. It does not repair clipping, remove background noise or perform detailed dialogue mixing, so source preparation still matters.

When normalization is the right step

Podcast or spoken programme

Start near −16 LUFS and listen to quiet speakers, loud passages and the final encode.

Music listening copy

A louder target may suit the delivery context, but it is not a mastering certification.

Only one file is uniformly quiet

A modest fixed-gain boost may be the more direct operation when sufficient peak headroom exists.

Choose measured normalization when recordings need a consistent listening target rather than a simple volume increase.

Before normalizing

  • Remove obvious noise or bad edits before the loudness pass.
  • Keep headroom and listen for peak distortion.
  • Compare at matched player volume when judging tonal changes.
  • Do not describe a selected target as a measured final result until the file is analyzed.
