Settings for this task
| Use case | Setting | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Speech programme | −16 LUFS | Conservative first comparison among these presets. |
| Music listening copy | −14 LUFS | Evaluate dynamics, not only apparent loudness. |
| Louder experiment | −11 LUFS | Check for unwanted dynamic changes. |
How to use this tool
- Upload a finished recording rather than an unfinished isolated track.
- Choose the preset appropriate to the listening context.
- Download, listen to quiet and loud passages, and measure separately if delivery requires certified levels.
Loudness is not peak amplitude
LUFS estimates programme loudness, whereas a peak describes the highest signal excursion. Two recordings with similar peaks can sound very different in average level. This tool asks loudnorm for integrated loudness with a −1.5 dBTP true-peak setting and an LRA setting of 11. Those parameters are not a measurement report.
One pass has practical limits
The implementation does not first measure the complete file and then run a second correction pass. Short, unusual or highly dynamic material may not land precisely on target. If a broadcaster or client requires a tolerance, measure the exported file with a suitable loudness meter instead of treating the preset as certification.
Prepare dialogue before normalization
A nearly inaudible guest, a sudden shout or long silence may require manual editing before whole-programme processing. Normalization does not isolate voices, remove noise or guarantee identical loudness for every sentence. Compare transitions and listen for changes to musical dynamics as well as overall level.
Questions about this operation
- Does −14 LUFS guarantee a platform accepts it?
- No. Platform and client specifications vary. Check the current delivery requirement separately.
- Can I normalize without re-encoding?
- Not here. Changing the waveform requires processing and MP3 encoding.
- Will it remove microphone hiss?
- No dedicated denoiser runs. Noise can become more noticeable after level changes.
- Does it make all speakers equally loud?
- It processes the programme rather than identifying individual speakers. Large differences may need dialogue editing first.
- How do I verify exact LUFS?
- Measure the downloaded result in a loudness meter. This page does not display a certified post-processing LUFS measurement.
