Settings for this task
| Use case | Setting | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Lecture | 96–128 kbps · mono | Check names and technical vocabulary. |
| Filmed rehearsal | 192–320 kbps · stereo | Listen to instruments and room ambience. |
How to use this tool
- Upload an MP4 containing the sound you need.
- Choose the MP3 quality and review the measured duration.
- Download and check the beginning, end and any important spoken passages.
Calculated size examples
Calculated, not measured uploads: bytes ≈ bitrate (kb/s) × seconds × 1,000 ÷ 8. MB here means 1,000,000 bytes. Headers, tags and variable bitrate affect actual size. Channels are already included in the total bitrate; do not multiply again.
| Output duration | Format | Bitrate | Estimated audio payload |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30:00 | MP3 | 192 kb/s | 43.2 MB |
| 30:00 | MP3 | 96 kb/s | 21.6 MB |
Audio bitrate, not video resolution
A 4K picture does not imply a high-quality soundtrack. MP3 output depends on the audio present and your encoding choice, not on the video resolution. Removing pictures can save substantial space, but a tiny video with low-bitrate sound can still produce a larger MP3 at a high setting.
A listening copy of a lecture
Estimated payload for thirty minutes: about 43.2 decimal MB at 192 kbps, or 21.6 MB at 96 kbps. If you only need one explanation, trim the extracted recording afterward. Keep the MP4 if slides, demonstrations or gestures carry information missing from sound alone.
Do not mistake the preset for restoration
The 320 kbps option provides more encoding capacity but cannot restore details missing from the MP4 audio. Original Quality can copy only an already compatible MP3 stream; it does not make AAC-to-MP3 lossless. Use the general extraction tool with M4A when you specifically need to copy compatible AAC.
Questions about this operation
- Can I convert MOV or WebM on this page?
- This page accepts MP4 only. Use Extract Audio from Video for the other listed video containers.
- Why is the resulting audio silent?
- The source may contain silence or the selected stream may not be the one expected. Inspect the original and try an export containing the intended track.
- Does converting remove spoken background noise?
- No noise-reduction filter is applied. The MP3 carries the source's background sound.
- Can it copy AAC directly into MP3?
- No, AAC packets are not MP3 packets. Choose M4A in the general extractor for compatible AAC copying.
- Will chapter markers survive?
- Do not rely on it. Container metadata and chapter support differ; keep a separate timestamp list when needed.
