Calculated size examples
Calculated, not measured uploads: bytes ≈ bitrate (kb/s) × seconds × 1,000 ÷ 8. MB here means 1,000,000 bytes. Headers, tags and variable bitrate affect actual size. Channels are already included in the total bitrate; do not multiply again.

Make a useful spoken excerpt
Starting exactly at a word's apparent beginning can cut a breath or consonant. Keep a small lead-in and the complete sentence ending, then refine if needed. A short reference is easier to understand when the speaker's meaning remains intact. The tool does not transcribe or identify sentences for you.
MP3 frames limit copy boundaries
MP3 audio is organized in frames rather than arbitrary independently playable samples. Stream-copy cuts can land near, rather than exactly on, the requested moment. A copy avoids another lossy generation but does not promise sample accuracy. Re-encoding allows a different cut path while adding MP3 encoding loss.
Length and file size are separate controls
Removing most of a long MP3 can produce a much smaller clip without choosing a lower bitrate. The examples calculate payload for short encoded excerpts; copied VBR sources can differ. If the clip is still too large, choose a lower bitrate, keeping the original as the source for each attempt.

- This tool keeps one continuous interval. Create the sections you need separately and join them with Merge Audio.
- Can I cut an M4A here?
- This page is MP3-only. Use Audio Trimmer for other supported input formats.
- Why is the clip slightly longer than expected?
- Copy boundaries and codec delay can affect duration. Listen to the actual result rather than relying only on arithmetic.
- Will my title tag describe the excerpt?
- Existing metadata may still describe the whole recording. Rename the download or edit tags separately if context matters.
- Does this provide fades?
- No fade control is currently exposed. Choose a quieter boundary or use an editor with fades for polished transitions.
